Festive opening

“New Sequences” by

Michel Szulc Krzyzanowski

Sunday 28 May 2017: 4 – 6 PM

Michel Szulc Krzyzanowski (Oosterhout, 1949) uses his camera to investigate existential questions about life and his place in it. The tense home situation of his youth has greatly influenced his personal growth and development as an artist. By making Sequences, images of two or more pictures, he tries to ask and confirm his place in the world.

The autonomous conceptual photography of Szulc Krzyzanowski has been featured in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum Ludwig in Cologne, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Fotomuseum The Hague and recently in CODA Museum in Apeldoorn. In addition, his work is included in numerous public and private collections.

Michel Szulc Krzyzanowski received international acclaim as one of the founders of black and white sequential photography (photo series) in the seventies. After fifteen years, he decided to stop because the method did not bring him new insights. However, since 2016 he started to make sequences again, at the same deserted beaches in Mexico he used before. This time in color and as intrusive as the classical predecessors, but at the same time completely contemporary and surprising.

The show will run from 28 May – 23 July. The festive opening is on SUNDAY(yes, Sunday) 28 May, from 4 – 6 PM. We’re very pleased that Michel has traveled all the way from Mexico to The Netherlands to attend the opening of his show.

We also have a nice collection of his vintage Sequences in stock, as well as many of his books, including the famous ‘Sequences, the ultimate selection’. You can order your signed copy through our website.
